A trial in a Renaissance interior. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. On the stretcher a label with Amalienborg Royal Palace inventory no. “A 109” and noted in Danish “above the couch”. Furthermore a note handwritten in Danish with a drawing pin on the reverse of the frame: Sorgenfri Palace 6 December 77. This painting belongs to my son Ingolf. Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde. 43.5×37.5 cm.
Provenance: King Frederik VIII (1843–1912) and Queen Lovisa of Denmark (1851–1926), Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg; hereafter their son and daughter-in-law, King Christian X (1870–1947) and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (1879–1952), Christian VIII's Palace at Amalienborg; then their son and daughter-in-law, Hereditary Prince Knud (1900–1976) and Hereditay Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark (1912–1995), Sorgenfri Palace; thereafter their son, His Excellency Ingolf Count of Rosenborg (b. 1940) until today.
The painting can be seen in a photograph from the Garden Hall at Sorgenfri Palace in 1970. It hangs above the display cabinet to the left of the fireplace.
