Johannes Zehngraf (b. Nykøbing Falster 1857, d. Berlin 1908)

Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich was the only son of of Tsar Nicholas II Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia. He was named after the second tsar of the Romanov dynasty and supposed to be the future Tsar Alexei II of Russia. However, he was killed during the Russian revolution with his parents and and four sister.

The Danish-born Johannes Zehngraf settled in Berlin 1889 as a miniature painter and attracted many of Europe's Imperial and Royal houses as clients. He also became the chief miniaturist for Carl Fabergé in St. Petersburg. Among other objects, Johannes Zehngraf painted miniature portraits for the Lilies of the Valley egg (1898), depicting Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his two daughters, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna of Russia and Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna of Russia.

Provenance: Private Danish owner. The ownership before is unknown.
