Christen Dalsgaard (b. Skive 1824, d. Sorø 1907)
Purchased by “Museum Salling” in February 2019.
“En gammel Kone, der har læst et Brev fra sin i Felten saarede sön. Costumet fra Stevnsherred”. An old woman reading a letter from her son who was wounded in the battlefield. Her costume is from Stevns. Signed and dated Chr. Dalsgaard 1851. Oil on canvas. 100×74 cm.

Provenance: Bruun Rasmussen auktion 589 no. 49.
The depicted woman is also used as a model in a painting dated 1850 at Brundlund castle and in a painting from 1868 depicting N. F. S. Grundtvig with his three sons in Vartov Church.
