Peter Copmann, after Christian Hornemann (b. Rudkøbing 1794, d. Guadeloupe 1850)

Purchased by “Det Nationalhistoriske Museum på Frederiksborg Slot” in February 2019.

A pair of portraits of wine merchant Christian Waagepetersen (1787–1840) and his wife Albertine Emmerentze, née Schmidt (1793–1864). The couple married in 1809.

He: En face to the right wearing a gray jacket, yellow vest and white cravat.

She: En face to the left wearing a white dress with green ribbon tied around the waist with a bow and a red shawl over her right shoulder. Both signed with monogram and dated 1832. He inscribed: Hornemann 1812. Pastel on paper. 49×41 cm each. (2).

These portraits are copied after Christian Hornemann's portraits of the married couple from 1812, when they have been married for 3 years and she was 19 and he was 25 years old.

Provenance: The portraits were made for the Waagepetersen family. Thence by descent until today.
