The founding father of Jaeger-LeCoultre was Charles-Antoine LeCoultre, who established the company in the Vallée de Joux in 1833. As a young blacksmith, Charles became aware of the many problem’s watchmakers faced with heat-treated and hardened steel parts, which led him to design and build efficient machinery to deal with these matters, among many other ingenious inventions. In 1937 LeCoultre formed a collaboration with French watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, officially renamed to Jaeger-LeCoultre, paving the way for many of the classic complications that we know today.
