Poul Henningsen (b. Ordrup 1894, d. Hillerød 1967)

“PH-6/3”. Very rare pendant with patinated brass canopy and bayonet socket house. Red/bronze copper top shade, bronze/bronze copper middle and bottom shade. Middle shade enclosed by numerous glass crystals, metal bottom bowl. This example manufactured in few copies by special order to architect Anton Rosen in 1927 by Louis Poulsen. Diam. 60 cm.

Provenance: Palace Hotel, Copenhagen. Henceforth in a private collection.

In 1927, when the ageing and highly regarded architect, Anton Rosen, asked Poul Henningsen for crystal lamps for the decoration of Marmorhaven (The Marble Garden) at the Palace Hotel in Copenhagen, the young Poul Henningsen did not have the heart to disappoint him. He designed a special version of his PH-lamp lighting fixture with copper shades and glass crystals around the middle shade.
