Vilhelm Arnesen (b. Flensburg 1865, d. Copenhagen 1948)

Prince Carl and Princess Maud of Denmark heading for Oslo on board the former Danish Royal Yacht Dannebrog as King Haakon VII and Queen Maud of Norway. Signed and dated Vilh. Arnesen 1906. Oil on canvas. 120×180 cm.

Prince Carl and Princess Maud of Denmark were appointed to be the new King and Queen of Norway, when the country became independent from Sweden in 1905.

A painting of the departure from Copenhagen, also painted by Vilhelm Arnesen, is owned by the Norwegian Royal Family.

Provenance: Wedding present to Prince Harald of Denmark and Princess Helena of Glücksburg April 28th 1909 from Danish Freemasons. Prince Harald was brother of Haakon VII and Christian X, sons of Frederik VIII. Hereafter, descendants of Frederik VIII (1843–1912) until today.
