William Morris was a British book artist, who owned the private printing house the Kelmscott Press. Due to the industrial methods that was replacing the manual book production in the mid 19th century, Morris' ambition was to give the old craftmanship of book production a revival. Morris had handmade paper manufactured, he designed his owns fonts based on Gothic bookhand from the 15th century, and the books that he made, he printed and bound himself. His books became 'role models' for numerous publishings in the private printing industry in the western world.
