A drawing room with a round table with two candles in silver candlesticks. Behind a birch wood sofa and to the right a rectangular table. 1909. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 58×82 cm.

Sophus Michaëlis and Alfred Bramsen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Vilhelm Hammershøi no. 325.

Provenance: The artist's wife Ida Hammershøi. On the stretcher Hammershøi's address is written: Strandgade 25. ABR auction 265, 1971 no. 45.

The well-known furniture from Hammershøi's home can be seen here as well as the silver candlesticks that he often depicts in his paintings. They have a distinctive place in for example the two paintings “The mint collector” owned by The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo and “Five portraits” owned by Thielska Galleriet, Stockholm. The very interesting oval framing of the motif has also been used in two paintings from “Spurveskjul”, a summerhouse Hammershøi rented.
