Provenance: Elise Thalund, who worked as a secretary at Arne Jacobsen's drawing office. Presented as a wedding gift from the architects at Arne Jacobsen's drawing office to current owner's parents, who lived in Arne Jacobsen's own house on Hørsholmsvej 67 in Jægersborg, while he was in exile in Sweden during WWII.

This rare bed contains a nice story of loyalty in the most turbulent times. Flemming Lassen was Arne Jacobsen's childhood friend, and Flemming Lassen had worked with Arne Jacobsen on several projects since the late 1920s. Arne Jacobsen being of Jewish descent was forced to flee to Sweden in 1943 during WWII. His architectural offices continued their work even in his absence, with a skeleton crew. Flemming Lassen had worked with Arne Jacobsen on several projects just prior to his escape. Elise Thalund had been Arne Jacobsen’s secretary for some time and had moved into Arne Jacobsen’s house in his absence as a kind of house-sitter. When she was married in 1944, Flemming Lassen was presumably somehow asked by Arne Jacobsen to come up with something good as a wedding present for Jacobsen’s loyal secretary. Flemming Lassen designed the bed that points to the same type of beds Arne Jacobsen himself had designed for his summerhouse “Knarken” in 1938.
