Poul Kjærholm (b. Østervrå 1929, d. Hillerød 1980)
“PK 26”. Set of three wall mounted sofa sections with chromed steel frame. Later loose unorginal cushions in seat and back upholstered with black leather, fitted with buttons. Designed 1956. Manufactured and marked by Fritz Hansen, 2002. Each section: L. 75 cm (3)
Fittings included.
The model PK 26, designed 1956, was originally made with the same type of down cushions used for the PK 31 series. This original version was used when furnishing the offices of pharmaceutical company Lundbeck. This building was designed by architect Erik Christian Sørensen who worked closely with Kjærholm in the 1950–1960s. However, the down-filled cushions did not provide the standards of comfort set by Kjærholm, and he thus re-designed the cushions together with Ivan Schlechter in 1957. They came up with the present cushion design, fitted with buttons and resembling Chesterfield sofas, similar to Kaare Klint's sectional sofa from 1934. The frame is a revised design of the PK 25 chair.
Wear due to age and use, including scratches and marks. Canvas with stains and dirt. Minor restored/welding on wall fittings one module. Some loose and missing buttons on loose cushions. Leather with stains and dirt.
