An extremely rare named breech loading double barrelled percussion pistol by Nicolai Løbnitz c 1845. The slightly curved butt is chequered and on the left side a silver plaque with the inscription KAMMERHERRE v. HOLSTEIN-RATHLOU, underlaying ring shaped percussion hammer and c 12,5 cm long octagonal barrels in calibre c 12,5 mm rifled with 6 grooves. The top of the chambers are marked N. LØBNITZ PATENT KIØBENHAVN in three lines.

The pistol belonged to Viggo von Holstein-Rathlou 1821–1884, commander of the volunteer sharpshooters from Jutland during the first Sleswig-Holstein war. He is known for the so-called Steppinge incident, in which he took a number of Prussian cuirassiers as prisoners. Provenance: The Danish manor house Rathlousdal.

Condition

The spring for the crank, the barrel selector and the back sight is missing.
