Heinrich Hansen (b. Haderslev 1821, d. Frederiksberg 1890)

Provenance: Tsar Alexander III of Russia (1845–1894), ruler from 1881. No. 348 in the Catalogue Raisonné of the art collection of Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich (Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich, The Collection of Documents, Moscow 2012). Here stated that Tsar Alexander III as Russian Crown Prince (tsarevich) during a summer visit in Denmark 1871 ordered the painting directly from the artist for 600 rubles. In the Russian catalogue, the painting is entitled ”The Great Hall in Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark”.

According to the label on the stretcher, the painting was part of the personal art collection of the Grand Duke in the Anichkov Palace, the St. Petersburg residence of Tsar Alexander III, and placed in the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo.
