Ralph Gout (b. Switzerland c. 1770, d. England 1836)
A large George III musical clock in case of mahogany with gilt bronze mounting and fabric panels, round dial of white painted metal, the movement with large striking bell connected to the large musical instrument with 28 pipes and 11 melodies. The dial marked 'Ralph Gout, London'. England, c. 1790. H. 102 cm. W. 46 cm. D. 26 cm.
Ralph Gout was an important watch and clockmaker in London. Unfortunately he went bankrupt in 1796 when his stock included many clocks for Spanish and Indian markets and pedometer watches. Literature: Brian Loomes, 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World', London 2006, p. 313.
