A rare antique Chinese silk-metal relief rug. All over herati design with flowers and foliage, the “à la grecque” border is of classical simplicity, the field of gold-bronze metal threads. The reign of Qianlong developed silk rugs with a web of metallic gold or silver threads as back ground for the pattern. They seem to have been inspired by the metal and silk rugs of the Mings, which have vanished. This rug is a perfect specimen of one of these rugs. Mint condition. 18th century. 184×127 cm.
