The reference 2 from Urban Jürgensen is truly a collector’s timepiece, with only 50 pieces cased in platinum. This reference is part of a series developed by legendary watchmaker Derek Pratt together with the former owner of the company, Peter Baumberger. Pratt, who made some of the most sought-after watches of the 20th century, worked for Urban Jürgensen from 1985 until his death in 2009, creating numerous remarkable pocket- and wristwatches. The reference 2 is crafted using traditional methods that have been utilized by the company for centuries, as the watch reflects many of the extraordinary qualities that also defined Urban Jürgensen’s pocket watches from the 19th century. The engine-turned solid silver dial is finely decorated with different guilloché patterns and features day-, date-, month- and moon phase indication. The so-called ‘’observatoire’’ hands are individually crafted out of solid gold and clearly resemble the design that Urban Jürgensen used over two hundred years ago. The case of the watch is fashioned from a single piece of solid platinum onto which four handcrafted lugs have been individually soldered. Between the lugs, the strap is designed to follow the shape of the case for a more sophisticated appearance. Although the movement is not visible to the owner, the decoration, quality and craftsmanship have not been neglected. Based on the automatically wound and incredibly thin calibre FP71 by Frédéric Piguet, it features various aesthetic and useful improvements, most notably the 21k gold engine-turned rotor. The reference 2 by Urban Jürgensen oozes understated luxury and will excite even the most experienced collector.
