“China chair”. A Cuban mahogany armchair, loose seat cushion upholstered with red-brown leather, fitted with buttons. Model 4283. Designed 1944. Manufactured by Fritz Hansen, 1975. Silver plaque in the back stamped Fritz Hansen EFT 74/400, Hans J. Wegner, 1975.

In 1974–1975, Fa. Fritz Hansen decided to make a special production of “China Chair” in Cuban mahogany. For 40 years, since 1934, the company had Cuban mahogany at their storage, and they assumed that 400 chairs could be made from the stock. Each chair was given a silver plaque at the bottom part of the back, numbered with a serial number out of 400, company name and Hans J. Wegner's stamped signature.

Condition

Minor wear due to age and use. Minor marks and scratches. Armrest repair. Middle button in cushion is loose
