An 18th c. Louis XVI silver incense burner with indistinct marks, possibly Tughra marks, Turkey. H. 12.5 cm. Further, a Russian Neo-Gothic silver-gilt incense burner. Indistinct maker's mark, assayer I. Avdejev 1861, indistinct Moscow town mark, 84 standard. Weight 336 g. A small brass incense burner included. (2+1).

Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Secretary of Legation in Vienna, Berlin, Moscow and Warzaw in the 1920s, later Counsellor of the Legation in Berlin, Paris, Turkey, Israel and Greece, and finally Consul General in Hamburg from 1954. Hoffmeyer's interest in collecting silver was pervasive and he acquired items in all the cities he lived. Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.

Condition

Wear due to age and use. Louis XVI censer askew due to large dent.
