Provenance: The Swedish playwright, author and painter August Strindberg (1849–1912). The Swedish actress and miniaturist Fanny Falkner (1890–1963) got to know August Strindberg, when she was taught pastel painting by him in 1911. Later, they met again via the theatre and August Strindberg now rented a part of the house of Fanny Falkner's parents in Stockholm. Fanny Falkner also lived here and time by time she and August Strindberg were described as cohabiting. However, when there were rumors about a marriage between them, she moved to Copenhagen. In 1953–1955 Fanny Falkner paid a visit to the Danish antique dealer, Tage Hansen (1910–1998). She gave the cigarette case to Tage Hansen and told, that it formerly belonged to August Strindberg. The visit and conversation were attended by Tage Hansen's son, who is the present owner of the cigarette case and who has referred their conversation to this cataloging.
