James Paterson verge pocket watch in 22k gold and gilt silver pair cases, white dial with Roman numerals and outer 5-minutes Arabic numerals, gilt movement signed James Paterson Edinburg No 1. Inner case of 22k gold, hallmarked London 1803, maker IR. Outer case of gilt sterling silver, chased with a fairy in flight and three putti, hallmarked London 1803, maker IR. Weight inner case incl. movement 97 g. Weight outer case 41 g. Case diam. 47/54 mm.

James Paterson was apprenticed to James Howden in Edinburgh in 1789. He started his own business in Lawn Market in 1804 (until 1825). This pocket watch may therefore be the first watch (No. 1) in his own name.

Condition

The watch does not work at present. We do not guarantee for the functionality. Dial with a few minimal chips along the rim and at centre.
