Mario Krohn, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Christen Købke, 1915, no. 12 (here listed under 'Missing paintings'). Jørgen Folmer and Iben From, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Christen Købke, 1996, no. 29a.

Provenance: The estate auction of Christen Købke 1848 no. 33 (listed under 'Købke's painted studies and sketches'). Acquired here by Christen Købke's brother-in-law, sculptor and medallist F.C. Krohn (1806–1883). Sold at his estate auction 1883, presumably no. 28 (with the same dimensions and with the title “Fra Stranden” (from the beach)). Acquired here by the sculptor G.C. Freund (1821–1900), not at his estate auction. Barrister P. Olufsen (1953).

Exhibited: Kunstforeningen, “Christen Købke”, 1953 no. 50. The National Gallery of Denmark “Christen Købke 1810–1848”, 1995, no. 29a.

F.C. Krohn has noted that the study depicts the old lime kiln, north of Copenhagen (today part of Copenhagen), and was painted in 1834.
