Germany. 1937. LAKEHURST-cover carried by the Hindenburg LZ 129 and part of the mail intended for the return trip. This mail had been placed in a metal container and, consequently, was able to survive the fire. When the container was recovered, all covers was canc. MAY 10 1937 and returned by ship to the original addr. in Europe. Also enclosed a letter from “Die Kreispostdirection”, dated Basel 26.Mai 1937 with notes on the Lakehurst disaster. Very rare item.
