Johan Frederik Holm (b. 1803, d. 1877)

Architecture. Inscribed on the reverse J. F. Holm 1838. Plaster mosaic. 32×25.5 cm.

Holm was in 1846–50 responsible for executing Jørgen Sonne's cement plaster frieze for Thorvaldens Museum. The present piece of architecture can therefore be regarded as a dry run for the monumental frieze thus giving a rare idea of the original colours.

Provenance: Danish King Frederik VII; his sale, 7. october 1864 lot 347. Purchased here by glove maker Verdier.

Condition

Repaired cracks. Minor chips and scratches.
