According to his diary, Hans Christian Andersen stayed at titular professor and principal at Odense Cathedral School (Odense Katedralskole, ed.) Rudolph Johannes Frederik Henrichsen (1800–1871) and his wife, Lovise Caroline Sophie Henrichsen (1810–1898) from 21–26 April 1868.
The poem is dedicated to Mrs. Henrichsen:
"Fru Professorinde Henrichsen i Odense.
I det Hjem hvor jeg fandt Hygge / da i Vaar jeg flagred' hid / gjemmes vil min Billed-Skygge / en Erindring om hiin Tid.
H.C. Andersen den 22 April 1868."
