Three Greenlandic carved sperm whale tupilaks. 1930ies. H. 12.5–14.5 cm. (3)

Provenance: Gifts to doctor Ulf Gad (1908–1990) in Julianehåb, 1935. Ulf Gad first came to Greenland as a newly qualified doctor in the first half of the 1930s and later returned, more precisely in 1956. In the years 1956–1958 he was the director of Queen Ingrid's Sanatorium in Nuuk and in this capacity made a decisive contribution to the eradication of tuberculosis in Greenland. The three tupilaks have been inherited by Ulf Gad's descendants to this day.

Condition

Several countries outside the EU (third countries) ban import of items containing materials from endangered species. This lot number might be covered by such provision and potential buyers are advised to familiarize themselves with these rules. Wear due to age and use. Natural cracks. One glued on the base.
