According to legend, the V-sign was originally the English archers' way of taunting the French during the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. It is said that the archers (longbowmen) were in the habit of raising the index and middle fingers of their right hand to show that they had not yet been captured by the French. Capture usually resulted in the archers having the fingers on their right hand cut off.
This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1965, which shows normal signs of age and handling, including small surface marks and scratches. Back with a few small stains.
