Tall stoneware vase modelled in sprouting style. Decorated with Sung glaze. Signed Salto, 20817. Model designed 1946. Royal Copenhagen. H. 34 cm.

Literature: “Axel Salto - Stentøjsmesteren”, CLAY - Keramikmuseum Danmark, the model ill. p. 144.

The budded style is prevalent in the work that Salto designed in his time at the Royal Copenhagen. The model was designed in 1946.

About the budded style, Axel Salto states in an article published in the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende on Sunday, 30 October 1949: "I have worked with the style of the times, created by a changed worldview, which poses new standards for the form and content of art. A far better recognition of nature, a greater truth and therefore a greater beauty. From this comes the budding- or growth-oriented style whose naturalistic predecessor is the budding branch. The growth phenomenon.”
