H. Chr. Christensen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of P. S. Krøyer no. 718 (here with the measurement 83×46 cm).

Literature: Peter Michael Hornung, “Peder Severin Krøyer”, 2002, reproduced and mentioned p. 358 (in Danish): “Krøyer's obsession of Henny Brodersen remained undiminished to the end. In one of his later exhibitions he included 15 portraits of her - this even the model found was a bit excessive. In this late painting, he painted her standing in an evening dress, with his studio as the background.”

When Marie left Krøyer, he turned his affection towards Henny Brodersen instead. She was married to city treasurer Hans Brodersen and took care of Marie and P. S. Krøyer's daughter Vibeke in the turbulent years, when Marie fell in love with the Swedish composer Hugo Alfvén, and she took care of Krøyer in his final years.

Provenance: City treasurer Hans Brodersen (1923). Bruun Rasmussen auction 435, 1982 no. 81, reproduced p. 73.

Correction: from H. Chr. Christensen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of P. S. Krøyer no. 447 to no. 718.
