Johan Thomas Lundbye (b. Kalundborg 1818, d. Bedsted 1848)

A young woman from Albano. Unsigned. Inscribed by the artist “fra (from) Albano 11 Nov. 45”. Verso Dansk Kunsthandel's collector's mark “DK nr. 584”. Pencil and watercolour on paper. Sheet size 17×11 cm.

In Rome from 3 November to 5 December 1845 Lundbye did a series of figure studies in pen or pencil and watercolour, which he called (in Danish) “Costume drawings”. Common to these costume drawings is that they are all depicting typical ordinary Italian people from Rome and the surrounding area, dressed in their characteristic original costumes.
