In the background one can see a small section of the old Østervold, where the National Gallery of Denmark is today. Opposite was the old barracks, which later housed DSB and today the dormitory called BaseCamp.

In 1891 Wilhelm Th. Fischer won the Academy's Neuhausen Prize for this painting.
