Georges Michel was a French landscape painter and an important precursor of the Barbizon school. He was influenced by Dutch landscape painters such as Jacob van Ruisdael and Meindert Hobbema.
Today his works are found in museums around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Portland Art Museum, Vanderbilt University Gallery, Nashville; Strasbourg Musée des Beaux-Arts, Victoria and Albert Museum, London and other museums.
