Codenamed 'Operation Neptune' and often referred to as D-Day, June 6, 1944 saw the largest seaborne invasion in world history. The operation began the liberation of France, and the rest of Western Europe from Nazi rule, and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front. A total of 9,000 young men - on both sides - paid with their lives on that day.
This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1945, which appears with two corner creases on the left side. Telegram on the back heavily yellowed. In addition, ordinary handling marks.
