St. Petersburg Glassworks
A Russian clear glass goblet, engraved with profile portrait of Tsaritsa Elizabeth I Petrovna, opposite side with the Russian double-headed eagle and meandering monogram EP, baluster air filled faceted stem, mounted on a replaced foot. St. Petersburg Glassworks, 1750–1760. H. 27 cm.
Tsaritsa Elizabeth I Petrovna (1701–1762) was aunt to Tsar Peter III of Russia, married to Tsaritsa Catherine II the Great of Russia, parents to Tsar Paul I of Russia. The monogram EP in Latin letters points at the westernisation of Russia in this period.
Provenance: Acquired by Erica Zeiner-Henriksen 1922–1927 in St. Petersburg.
