A Rococo giltwood console with profiled marble top, curved sides and front carved with foliage and ornaments, cabriole legs joined by ornamental stretchers. Mid 18th century. H. 75 cm. W. 78 cm. D. 50 cm.
Provenance: Valdemars Castle, Funen, Denmark.
The German cabinetmaker Dietrich Schäffer (c. 1700–1778) arrived in Copenhagen in 1730 and became court cabinetmaker. He took part in the decoration of Frederiksberg Palace. His appartment in Magstræde is today a part of the exhibition at the National Museum of Denmark. Later he moved to the manor house Shäffergården north of Copenhagen.
