Per Kirkeby (b. Copenhagen 1938, d. s.p. 2018)

In 1969 Per Kirkeby was commissioned a major task by Statens Kunstfond (The Danish Arts Foundation): The decoration of the new assembly hall “Qagsse” in Aasiaat, which at the time was also called Egedesminde - by the Disko Bay in Northern Greenland. Per Kirkeby arrived in June with his wife Elisabeth and the little daughter Rebecca and embarked on three months of intense work to create the 36 m2 wall decoration.
The current owner was a teacher and editor of the local newspaper “Ausiak” and interviewed Per Krkeby for the newspaper about his project. In this relation Per Kirkeny agreed to make a front page for the next issue of the magazine (see copy on the back of the frame).
