Apollo 8 was the second manned mission within the Apollo Program and the astronauts Frank Borman (b. 1928), James Lovell (b. 1928) and William Anders (b. 1933) thereby became the first humans in orbit around the Moon - actually no less than 10 times. It was also the first manned launching of the Saturn V rocket. Apollo 8 was launched from Cape Canaveral , Florida on December 21st 1968 and returned to Earth on December 27th (Pacific Ocean).
