A German silver dinner service, fluted and curved rim, comprising fourteen pieces:
Five German silver plates, one engraved on the reverse of the rim monogram CL and No 1. Maker Emanuel Gottfried Meisgeyer, Augsburg 1763–1765. Weight 2,649 g. Diam. 24.5 cm.
Three German silver serving dishes, two middle-size and one larger. Maker Adolf Carl Holm, Augsburg 1763–1766. Weight 2,791 g. Diam. 30 cm. and 36 cm.
Later supplemented with six silver plates, uniform the above mentioned, only difference is a tiny profile on the reverse of the dishes. Maker's mark Frese, fineness 13, presumably referring to the silversmith family Frese in Itzehoe. Second quater-19th century. Weight 3,215 g. Diam. 24.5 cm. (14)
The first eight parts may - with the engraving CL on one plate- possibly refer to Landgrave Carl and Landgravine Louise of Hesse-Kassel, née Princess of Denmark as daughter of King Frederik VI. They were married in 1766 and parents of Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel, married to Duke Wilhelm of Glücksburg. The addition may have been made by their son, Duke Carl of Glücksburg (1813–1878), head of the family from 1831, and married to Duchess Wilhelmine, née Princess of Denmark as daughter of King Frederik VI.
