J. F. Willumsen (b. Copenhagen 1863, d. Cannes 1958)
“Stabbur” or “Loft”, Grimsgården, Nes, Hallingdal, Norway, presumably 1892. Unsigned. Indian ink and watercolor on paper. Visible size 29,5×34,5 cm.
Provenance: Previously belonged to the artist's first wife, Juliette Willumsen (born Meyer). On the framing reverse, the inscription from the reverse of the previous framing has been preserved with the inscription: “On the old discarded back cover it was written: Hung at Mrs. O. Meyer's[the artist's mother-in-law]. March 1921 handed over to Juliette Willumsen”. Provenance: The collection of Arne I. Hoems Samling, Norway. Hence by descent in the family.
The fine example of Norwegian folk architecture was taken down in 1908 and rebuilt in 1910 at the Norwegian Folk Museum on Bygdøy, where it is still found.
