Purchased by the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands in June 2014.
“The fiddler and Tarira”. Signed WH 79. Papercut. Sheet size 66×50 cm.
Literature: Wivel, Mikael. “SEKEL - færøsk kunst i hundrede år”. Listasavn Føroya, 2011. Variation of the papercut depicted on p. 117 with the above title.Translation of excerpt from page 118: "As an artist he is, therefore, best known for his drawings and his paper cuts. Whilst the former were mainly in the intervals between his books, that is, in youth, and manhood, while the latter virtually all were created after 1970, that is, in old age, where Heinesen gradually stepped down his authorship, but without ever quite letting go.
In regards to the papercuts and collages, these are unequivocally imaginative. The satire is gone in favor of an almost rollicking humor. His point of departure remains the Faroese legends and ballads but now he scissors in on them with an almost galloping vitality. In this regard, one could compare Heinesen to the old Henri Matisse, who in his last years also cut his pictures in paper, but it would perhaps be more appropriate to compare him with H.C. Andersen who, to put it mildly, was also a writer and whose incredible paper cuttings are carried out with the same unbridled imaginativeness as Heinesen's."
Examined in frame. A little dirt behind the glass.
