Sophia Loren (b. 1934) - born as Sofia Villani Scicolone - played various minor parts in her early youth and was elected second in the beauty contest “Miss Italia” in 1950. Then, in 1951, she got another minor role, this time in the Hollywood production “Qua Vadis”, which was made in Italy. The part did not come with any lines. Soon after this her career sky rocketed and before long she found herself working with celebrated directors like Vittorio De Sica and Carlo Ponti and movie stars like Marcello Mastroianni.
In the 1960s Sophia Loren was the most popular and the highest paid actress in the world, a fact reflected in the fee she received for taking part in “The Fall of the Roman Empire”, namely 1,000,000 dollars.
The present photograph was brought in Harper's Bazaar in 1965.
