In the early stages of the Cold War, from June 1948 to May 1949, the British-American 'Airlift' became crucial to the survival of West Berlin. The 'Airlift', which consisted of thousands of cargo planes shuttling supplies to the citizens of the western part of the divided city, became a necessity after the Soviet Union had blocked land access to West Berlin in the early summer of 1948.
This is an original b/w silver-gelatin press photograph from 1949, which appears somewhat yellowed. In addition, ordinary handling marks.
