Wolfgang Kunz (b. Augsburg 1942)

An original b/w press photograph of the German student leader Rudi Dutschke (1940–1979) during an anti-Vietnam War demonstration in Berlin on February 21, 1968. Back with publisher's stamp ('Deutsches Pressefoto'), 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' stamp as well as a hand-drawn red star (?). Double glazing. Fiber based photographic paper. Visible size 19.5×24.5 cm. Frame size 29×37 cm.

The charismatic Rudi Dutschke, a beacon for the revolutionary German left wing, got his inspiration not least from Rosa Luxemburg (1871–1919), from the so-called 'critical marxists' and also from christianity, and through his cooperation with African and Latin American students he developed a theory about how society could be radically changed. In his view representative democracy and parlamentarism expressed a 'repressive tolerance', which blurred the bourgois exploitation of the working class and protected the privileges of the few. Rudi Dutschke died in Aarhus, Denmark in December 1979.
