L. A. Ring (b. Ring 1854, d. Roskilde 1933)

Interior depicting a man seated by the window with his back turned. Signed and dated L. A. Ring 81. Oil on canvas. 41×31 cm.

In 1881 Ring shared an apartment with the painter H. A. Brendekilde in Herluf Trollesgade in Copenhagen. This interior could be from this place with Brendekilde seated by the window with his back turned to the painter. The year before - in 1880 - the two friends had decided to change their names to the names of their respective hometowns to avoid confusion - thus Hans Andersen becomes H. A. Brendekilde and Laurits Andersen becomes L. A. Ring.
