Portrait of major-general Heinrich Wilhelm von Huth (1717–1806) in red uniform with gold embroidery. High collar and frill and the Order of the Elephant. C. 1800. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 69×54 cm. Oval framing in a rektangular period frame.

Provenance: In Heinrich Wilhelm von Huths family's possession until today.

Huth was born in 1717 in the Costewitz in Saxony. He participated as a Major General and Commander of the troops during the Seven Years War. He moved to Copenhagen 1765 and the following year he was appointed to Lieutenant General and received the Grand Cross of Dannebrog. 1771 Chief of the artillery and engineer corps. Knighted 1776. 1779 posted in Norway, where he undertook surveys. 1783 Knight of the Elephant. In 1784, he participated actively in the change of government and supported the Crown Prince Frederik. The same year appointed Prime Minister, a position he held until his death.

He had lived in Gjethuset at Kongens Nytorv, here the Crown Prince moved in for a period after the Christiansborg Palace fire. Huth is buried at St Petri's cemetery in Copenhagen. At the entrance to Tøjhuset (the Armory) is a bust of the general.
