Frederik Storch (b. Kerteminde 1805, d. Copenhagen 1883)

A nobleman is lured by elven girls. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 112×98 cm.

As early as the 1820s, Storch travelled to Bavaria, where he joined Danish painters in Munich. Among Danish resident artists Niels Simonsen, Theodor Kjellerup, Louis Gurlitt and Chr. Holm can be mentioned. He remained in Germany for 20 years. Storch was known for his poetic-sentimental paintings and for painting young beautiful naked girls. It was not easy for him to return to Denmark, where the sentimental German style did not sit well with the local taste.
