Reagan's 1987 Berlin speech, especially his “Tear Down this Wall” challenge, became an iconic moment of the Cold War. It galvanized anti-communist sentiment, amplified the desire for personal freedom, and put immense pressure on the Soviet Union, ultimately contributing to the fall of the Berlin Wall and thus the end of divided world that had existed since 1945.
