Lloyd Dinkins (, photographer, active mid 20th century )

An original b/w silver gelatin press photograph of young Elvis Presley [1956] (1935–1977). Back with attached news telegram dated August 17, 1977, crossed out restriction stamp, handwritten editorial instruction in red as well as stamped publication dates (August 17, 1977, September 8, 1985). Oak wood frame and double glazing. Visible size 24.5×18 cm. Frame size 35×29 cm.

The telegram on the back of the photograph is - like most news telegrams of the time - almost trivial in its matter-of-fact listing of circumstances, in this case time and cause of death, but in the last sentence the unnamed journalist behind the words rises above the banal, allowing himself a more personal, and actually mournful, summary of Elvis Presley's life: 'Thus ended the lonely life of one of Americas best-loved men.' The attentive reader will also notice that the name of Elvis Presley's longtime manager, Joe Esposito, is misspelled in the telegram text.

Condition

This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1977, which shows signs of normal handling. News telegram on back has yellowed slightly.
