Queen Alexandrine of Denmark’s emerald and diamond bracelet.

A unique and rare Royal Art Deco emerald and diamond bracelet, links of beehive-shaped form with line framing, centered with five sugarloaf cabochon emeralds and four cushion-shaped old mine-cut diamonds, encircled by numerous rose and old mine-cut diamonds, mounted in platin. Accompanied by an extra diamond link. Presumably France. 1920s. Supposedly retailed by A. Michelsen in Copenhagen, purveyor to the Danish Royal Court. Accompanied by original fitted brown leather case, lined with cream silk and velvet, lid interior marked in a cartouche in gold print, below the Danish king’s crown: Michelsen, Joaillier de la Cour, Copenhague. L. 17.5 cm. W. 3 cm. L. extra link 2.5 cm.

Queen Alexandrine of Denmark’s emerald and diamond bracelet contains natural presumably Colombian emeralds weighing (from the clasp) app. 1.22 ct., app. 1,53 ct., app. 2.21 ct., app. 1.58 ct., and app. 1.00 ct., e.g. a total of app. 7.54 ct., and diamonds weighing a total of app. 26.10 ct. The extra diamond link weighing a total of app. 2.9 ct. Colour Top Wesselton-Crystal (G-J), Clarity VS-P1.

Provenance: Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (1879–1952), née Princess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, married 1898 to Prince Christian (X) of Denmark (1870–1947), the future king of Denmark from 1912. King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine’s eldest son was Prince Frederik, the future king Frederik IX of Denmark from 1947. Their younger son was Hereditary Prince Knud of Denmark (1900–1976), who in 1933 married Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark (1912–1995). On Queen Alexandrine’s death in 1952, the bracelet was inherited by her daughter-in-law, Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde. On her daath in 1995, the bracelet was inherited by their daughter, Princess Elisabeth (1935–2018). Thence by descendants of King Frederik VIII and Queen Lovisa of Denmark until today.
