King Christian IX of Denmark (1818–1906) was the first on the Danish throne of the House of Glücksburg from 1863. He was son of Duke Wilhelm and Duchess Louise of Glücksburg and brother to, among others, Duke Carl of Glücksburg, Duke Friedrich of Glücksburg, Duchess Friederike of Anhalt-Bernburg and Prince Hans of Glücksburg. King Christian IX's maternal grandfather and grandmother were Landgrave Carl and Landgravine Louise of Hesse-Kassel. The Landgravine was the daughter of King Frederik V of Denmark and of the Danish House of Oldenburg. King Frederik V was thus King Christian IX's great-grandfather.
