Original black-and-white press photograph of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1874–1965) surrounded by Australian and New Zealand soldiers. Recording from c. 1942. Back with attached news telegram from the British War Office. Oakwood frame with double glass. Visible size 19×24 cm. Frame size 28×33 cm.
Due to the ongoing world war and the censorship that prevailed in Great Britain, the backside telegram from the War Office does not mention the destination of Winston Churchill's visit, but simply refers to it as ‘Somewhere in England’, a phrase often used during the war years.
This is an original black-and-white silver gelatin press photograph from c. 1942, which shows discolouration throughout the right side, a few surface cracks, and normal signs of age and handling. Telegram on back has yellowed slightly.
